1st Visit to the Ophthalmologist

(Pronounced as oph·thal·mol·o·gist - eye doctor, eye specialist)

What a big word! Even mummy cant pronounce it properly.

They noticed i have been blinking quite frequently, and at times i will say i am so tired! So today was my 1st visit to the eye doctor. I didnt quite enjoy it.

First I had to go thru 2 eye tests by 2 diff clinic assistants. Then i waited to see the doctor herself.

But after i saw Dr Pauline, she instructed for an eye dilation (which was 3 dosages of eye drops at 5 min intervals which stung my eyes! But i was a brave girl in mummy's arms. Besides, later the nurse gave me choc wafer to eat so it wasnt that bad). And then we have to wait for 30 min for my eyes to get dilated - during which we rushed downstairs for some noodle soup. Been at the clinic for 2.5hrs!

Once my eyes are dilated, i had to go up again and do one last test by the Optometrist. By that time i very tired and sleepy liao. The Optometrist did a final check to confirm the degree of my reflective error or 'power'. Then Dr Pauline saw me for the last time, and confirm again my exact 'power' and concluded the result for Daddy and Mummy:- I had high astigmatism on my left eye 200 degrees! as a result of that, my left eye became lazy. (by that time, i am dozing off on the chair liao)

Immediate action was to correct my lazy eye (Amblyopia). Lazy eyes can be successfully treated at early ages, if not it will cause loss of vision or depth perception. Solution was to wear eye patch, or wear glasses. Dr Pauline recommended getting glasses for me, since it will both correct my lazy eye and possibly treat my astigmatism as well. (the part on treating my astigmatism - Mummy dun quite understand.. astigmatism can be cured? possible? she read up on it, and cannot find any literature that says astigmatism can be cured leh? except this)

As for my blinking, the Doc told my parents softly that it is just a bad habit.. will give me some eye drops, they can tell me that the drops will make the blinking go away.. and not talk abt the blinking anymore..

Anyway, we will heed the doc's advise lah. Armed with the prescription, they brot me to our family optician at thomson plaza after dinner and i got to pick my own first spectacles!

Erm, there were 'nicer' ones that Mummy insist i choose, but i refused lor. I think this is the best! Daddy told Mummy to let me decide myself, else i dun want to wear ar! Cheers for Daddy! He is the best!
